Come See What South Mountain can do for you!
Straight South of Ottawa’s downtown, South Mountain provides an easy 40 minute commute from most points. A residential, rural village that beams with a sense of community, South Mountain can offer a great rural real estate environment for living, playing, and working. At 10 minutes from Kemptville, there’s easy Highway 416 access. Straight North brings you through to the airport and the Bank/Albion area. South Mountain forms part of the 10 minute trifecta of Hallville, Mountain, and South Mountain that all provide easy commutes to all points central and west. Let The Oldford Team take a minute to tell you more about South Mountain.
South Mountain’s real estate features include a mix of contemporary and classic residential homes from 100+ years old to brand new. Scattered into the mix are some commercial and public properties including doctor’s office, library and park with tennis courts, golf course and restaurant, 3 more nearby golf courses, a few more restaurants, and the ever important ‘Rick’s’ gas bar with LCBO outlet. All of this centres around the Nation River that flows through town.
Agricultural real estate is a predominant feature around the village, and most fields will be growing corn, soy, wheat, and some of the other Canadian farm staples that are often seen in Ottawa’s rural South.
The small village of South Mountain always gives off a family atmosphere and feeling. A rural paradise, some say. It is proud to be the host of one of the bigger Summer Fairs in the area and is also close to 3 different orchards/berry farms with great produce (some supply to Farmboy) and many host great family fun events. The village has 2 churches and has several others within a 10- 15 minute drive.
The local public school in South Mountain is Nationview Public School. It provides for grades kids from Junior Kindergarten to grade 6 and also offers French Immersion as well as a daycare on site for before and after school care and pre-school age day care.
South Mountain is under 10 minutes to the town of Winchester which has 2 full grocery stores, hospital and pharmacy, schools, restaurants and shops, theatre and public sports centre including pool facilities, and many local community events to get involved in. South Mountain is just over 10 minutes to Kemptville and even closer to the 416 for easy West end commuting.
Although much of the village is steeped in it’s history, there are lots of contemporary businesses taking hold down some of the country lanes including a custom trim/moulding manufacturer that can create custom heritage mouldings and a successful Angora goat Mohair company. The rural side roads of South Mountain can be a great place for a commercial enterprise, large or small. We often enjoy the self-guided art tours that are put on that take the traveler to the many art studios scattered around the area.
South Mountain is part of North Dundas Township and within the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry
